Squirrel removal in Ocean County

That fast scratching over the bedroom at first light is almost always squirrels. We get them out, seal the roofline gaps they used, and fix the chewing before it turns into a wiring or water problem.

How to tell

Signs it’s squirrels in the attic

Squirrels keep a daytime schedule, which is the easiest way to tell them apart from a raccoon or a mouse. In Ocean County we see the gray squirrels in mainland neighborhoods and the smaller flying squirrels in wooded lakeside areas, where the noise runs later into the night.

  • Quick scratching and rolling sounds at dawn and again before dusk
  • Gnaw marks on fascia boards, roof vents and the corners of soffits
  • A round opening near the roof edge, a gable vent, or where the roofline meets a dormer
  • Chewed wiring, droppings in the insulation, or a nest of shredded material
  • Acorns or debris tucked in a gutter or on top of the porch roof

Why timing matters

Watch the nesting seasons

Female squirrels nest in attics twice a year, in late winter and again in late summer. If you seal the entry with a litter still inside, the young are trapped and you get a much worse odor and damage problem.

A proper job checks for young first, removes the whole family, and only then closes everything up. That’s the difference between a quick fix and a repeat call.

What’s included

The full squirrel job, not just a trap

Inspection

A look at the attic, roofline and soffits to find every opening and check for a nest of young before anything is sealed.

Humane removal

Trapping or one-way exclusion doors let the squirrels leave and keep them from getting back in.

Entry sealing

Vents, gaps and chewed openings closed with materials squirrels can’t gnaw through.

Damage repair

Chewed fascia, torn vents and damaged screens repaired so the roofline is sound again.

Cleanup

Droppings and soiled insulation cleared and disinfected when the attic needs it.

Prevention

Overhanging limbs and other easy routes flagged so squirrels stop treating your roof as a shortcut.

Questions

Squirrel removal questions

How do I know it’s squirrels and not something else?

Squirrels are loudest at dawn and again near dusk, with a quick scratching-and-scampering sound near the roofline. Raccoons are heavier and active at night; mice are lighter. Fast daytime activity up high is usually squirrels.

Why not just use poison?

Poison isn’t an effective or legal approach for squirrels, and an animal that dies inside a wall becomes an odor problem. The reliable fix is trapping or exclusion, then sealing the entry so more can’t follow.

Will they come back?

Not if the entry points are sealed. Squirrels return to the same easy openings year after year, so the sealing and repair is what actually ends it, not the trapping alone.

How long does it take?

Most jobs are done over a couple of visits, one to remove and one to confirm they’re out and seal up. Attic cleanup or repairs can add time. You’ll get a clear timeline after the inspection.
